What is Hypnotherapy for Children?
Hypnotherapy for children is an interactive therapy that helps your child overcome issues through using their powerful imaginations.
Being in hypnosis is a natural state for children. They use their imaginations much more easily than adults and enjoy that day-dream state we call hypnosis.
A qualified hypnotherapist can help your child deal with issues using that day-dream state to their advantage.
For most children and young people this involves visualisation and storytelling.
Is hypnotherapy safe for children?
Hypnotherapy is a safe therapeutic approach to use with children and young people. The youngest recommended age to have hypnotherapy sessions is 6 years old. Please Note: The youngest age I would directly with is 10 years. Children younger than 10 years I would recommend hypnosis recordings for.
It is important that the hypnotherapist you choose to work with your child is both qualified and experienced to work with children.

What is hypnotherapy for teenagers?
Hypnotherapy for teens is a gentle and effective approach to help young people navigate challenges, build confidence, and develop healthy coping skills. It involves using relaxation techniques and guided visualisation to access the subconscious mind, where positive changes can take root.
In addition to hypnotherapy, sessions incorporate powerful tools from NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and positive psychology. These tools help teens reframe negative thoughts, improve communication, and discover strengths they may not realise they have.
The goal is to empower teens to feel more confident, resilient, and in control of their emotions, helping them thrive both in school and in their personal lives. Sessions are always tailored to each teen's unique needs, ensuring a supportive and uplifting experience.
Where do sessions take place?
All sessions are held online via Teams. This allows your child to be comfortable in their own environment.
How many sessions will my child/teen need ?
The number of sessions needed will vary depending on the child and the issue.
When we have an initial consultation I will be able to advise the likely number of sessions your child may need.
Hypnotherapy has been shown to get results more quickly than talking therapy or CBT and typically the maximum number of sessions would be 6. However, most children and teens see results in around 4 - 6 sessions.
Specialist programmes such as the those for School Refusal have a set number of sessions. Please see the programme information for details.
As their parent should I be present in the session?
For younger child and pre-teens, yes you should be present during the session. Older teens may prefer to do the sessions on their own, the choice should always be theirs.
How do I know my child/teen will engage in the sessions?
This is common fear a lot of parents have, especially if their child has tried other therapies before. The best approach is to give you child/teen some sense of choice. If they feel they have a choice on the type of help they get they are more likely to be open to the approach.
It's my role to quickly understand how your child/teen may engage best. That said not all children and teens will engage. For this reason we always begin with an initial session before we agree to further sessions. This give your child/teen a chance to experience the session, what it is like to work with me, and decide if they would be willing to do more.
